I have to confess, I have an obsession with painted furniture. It started about 15 years ago, when I first lived on my own. Painting your own furniture is like marking one's own territory saying, this is MY space! My first piece I painted was a rainbow of colors, distressed and very unique. I'm disappointed I didn't save a photo of it but I found a close match here, below. My dresser was white along the top and sides and a bit left from the top layer on the drawers. I Since then, my style has changed a bit and my next project was a overhaul of a thrift store vintage piece. I wanted a very large dresser that I had seen in the furniture stores. You just can't find a good quality dresser anymore! This is a solid piece. When we recently moved into a new home, I thought the movers were going to kill me for the weight of this thing. I like the simplicity of this piece and will make sure it stays with me on our next move! I also love detailed, folk art pieces such as the ones from Sticks. I wish I had the patience to create something like this. It is really more of a work of art. My current obsession in furniture painting is Chalk Paint, such as Anne Sloan's line. You can create distressed or naturally worn looking pieces such as this beautiful red piece or the blue piece from Blue Egg Brown Nest. If you are as obsessed with painted furniture as I am, please check out my store where I am now selling my own painted pieces. Contact me with any questions you may have.
I hope that you will have a creative day and don't be afraid to up-cycle an outdated piece that has caught your attention!
