We have all welcomed in the new year and I do wish you a very colorful 2018! I would like to take this post to reflect on the past months announcements for the 2018 color of the year from all the paint companies.
Most of the colors are bold, dark or bright. I am not sure if I agree with the prediction, but I do like some of them and those that are in the black tones. I think most of the colors are good as accent or furniture color. Lets take a look...
My favorite of all the colors of the year is Behr's color: In the Moment. It is a green blue with a hint of gray. Just look around my website and you can see why! I do think it is a color that can be used in a bedroom and bathroom as well and even a family room.
Dutch Boy released Sandstone Tint... the only neutral in the group. I think this probably the company who is right on trend based on my current clients and their color selections. It is a warm greige with out yellow, what many clients requesting. A soft neutral.
Benjamin Moore shocked me with their choice, Caliente! It is a very bold red that I haven't seen requested (for walls) for a long time. A few clients have requested a red for an exterior door or accent, and maybe a piece of painted furniture but I am not in 100% agreement with this one.
Sherwin Williams also went bold with Oceanside. This color does make me happy! Again, not seeing this paint color much but I did spec a similar color for an office with moldings. I would be happy to see more of this color in 2018!
Dulux chose Heartwood, a mauve color that translates to a warm taupe. I think this would be beautiful in a master or baby room.
Dunn Edwards was back in the blue green hue (like SW and Behr) with The Green Hour. I do like this one and could see it in a bedroom, fun living room or accent.
PPG went with a nice blue black. I am seeing black on cabinets, furniture, railings, accents and even walls! I like in on ceilings as well as on a shiplap or accent wall.
And another black hue, Olympic chose a traditional black that is now being used in the home for accents as well as on exteriors.
Glidden went dark as well with a soft black called Deep Onyx. Homeowners are starting to not be afraid of the dark side, maybe we should thank Starwars? I am seeing it as accent walls and ceilings!
I hope you enjoyed my round up of the 2018 Colors of the year paint colors. Only one light neutral in the mix so obviously the companies are trying to push us out of comfort and into bold color choices!
